Richard D. Isaksen "Captain Ike", 81, a lifelong resident of Belford, peacefully passed away Thursday, April 23rd. Richard followed in his father's footsteps and became a commercial fisherman. Over the years he has had many fishing boats; amongst them was the Isaetta which is a 65' steel boat that he built in his backyard and is still being used by his son. Richard earned the name "Captain Ike," he always lent a helping hand and taught his trade to many fisherman including his sons who took over the family fishing business. He was a founding member of the Belford Seafood Co-Op and had worked at the fish factory for years. Richard played football while in Leonardo High School and then played softball with the Meadowview Inn team for years. He was a former member of Belford Engine Fire Company and in his spare time he enjoyed watching football and snow skiing when given the chance.
Richard was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Marilyn (Cadmus) Isaksen in 2003 , his brother Tom and sisters Ida Isaksen and Beatrice Olsen. He is survived by his daughter Ruthann Jackson of Colorado; and four sons Richard and his wife Grace of Middletown; David and his wife Virginia of Port Monmouth; Edward of Belford; Robert and his wife June of Belford. Richard also leaves behind his companion Sue Doran, his sisters, Alice White of Va., and Kathy Boyd of Fla., his brother, John Isaksen, of Fla.; 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
