Vollie Shol, 94
Vollie Shol, 94, of Underwood, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, at Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls.
She was born Sept. 17, 1913, to Oscar and Lillian (Berge) Swanson in Maine Township of Otter Tail County. She attended grade school in the old Barnhard School, and in Portersville, Calif. She attended two years of high school in Fergus Falls.
On May 5, 1934, she married Clifford Shol in her parents’ farm home in Maine Township. They worked in a logging camp in northern Minnesota for a year, then moved back and started farming, later buying Vollie’s home place on County Road One.
Vollie loved life in general, gardening,music, laughing and fun. She was willing to help where she was needed. She loved to travel, especially with her daughter and husband in their motorhome. She had many talents; the most noted was her beautiful wedding flowers when she started Vollie’s Wedding Service in 1959. She retired in 1997, with her granddaughter’s wedding.
One of her favorite activities was having ‘jam sessions’ with her family which consisted of the piano that she played by ear, the accordion played by her siblings and daughter, and her squawky fiddle and her clarinet which always made for a fun time. She also loved to bake and cook, and take part in helping at her church, Stavanger Lutheran, rural Fergus Falls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; a sister, Alice; two brothers, Vernon and Bob; and a grandson, Timothy Shol.
Survivors include her husband of 73 years, Cliff of Fergus Falls; daughters, JoAnn (Arlen) Anderson of Erhard, Eileen (Keith) Anderson of Alexandria, and Judy (Eric) Neumann of Cedar; a son, Wayne (Wendy) Shol of rural Underwood; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two step-great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Sears of Pennsylvania and Opal (Rueben) Schemki, and Vera (Fred) Oneto, of California; and may nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation: One hour before the service at Broen Memorial Home
Service: 1:30 p.m. Friday, in the Light and Life Auditorium at Broen Memorial Home
