- Richard (Rich) N. Fox, 88, of Eau Claire, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at home.
Rich was born in Eau Claire, WI on May 11, 1929, to Neal and Ragna Fox. He grew up in Red Wing, MN where he graduated high school. In Red Wing, Rich worked at the YMCA, fostering a love for camping and working with kids. Rich attended Luther College in Decorah, IA before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Following military service, Rich moved to Eau Claire and worked for Northern States Power (Xcel Energy) in the Protection and Maintenance Dept. as a Relay Technician/Specialist, retiring as supervisor.
Rich married Evangeline (Vangie) Olson in 1955. They made their home in Eau Claire, raising two children: Karen and Nancy. Following retirement, Rich and Vangie enjoyed traveling and wintering in Mesa, AZ.
Rich loved the outdoors - especially if that time was with friends and family. He enjoyed fishing in Canada, pheasant hunting, boating and camping. Camping became a way of life for the family where the day was always closed around the campfire. Rich had a special passion for White Birch Campground on Lake Holcombe. Developed by Xcel Energy, Rich was involved from the beginning and served on the Board.
Growing up in MN, Rich was a Vikings fan. This provided entertainment over the years with his many Packer friends, family and pastors. He wore his Viking socks proudly until the end.
Rich was a long-time member of First Lutheran Church (Spirit Lutheran), working with youth programs and Sunday School.
Rich is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vangie; children, Karen (Greg) Solfest and Nancy (Tom) Weiss; grandsons, Trenton, Ty and Tad Weiss; other family and friends.
