  1. 1.  Leta S. SwansonLeta S. Swanson ble født 3 Sep 1894 , Mankato, Blue Earth, Minnesota, United States (datter av Frank Larson Swanson og Anna M. Stol); døde 22 Mai 1981, Ramsey, Minnesota, United States; ble begravet 1981, Tingvold Lutheran Church Cemetery, Underwood, Otter Tail, Minnesota, United States of America.

    Notater:

Leta S. Swanson was born 3 Sept 1894 in Mankato, Minnesota. She was the product of an out of marriage relationship between her father, Frank L. Swanson and the hired farm girl, Anna Hohle. After Leta was born she remained in the Frank Swanson home with her birth mother Anna Hohle along with Frank's wife Anna and their children Albertina and Oscar J. Swanson.
Frank Swanson bought up land in 1899 to 1900 in Foxhome, Minnesota. Having worked for the railroad Frank believed the railroad would run thru Foxhome and he would be one step ahead of the growth and built a hotel and livery stable. The Swanson family moved to Foxhome by 1900 as Frank and wife Anna are proprietors of the Columbia Hotel. Also living at the hotel is Anna Hohle and although Leta Swanson is not found in the household, Leta was there as she remembered how nice Anna Hohle was to her. Also living at the hotel in 1900 is Carl Giving, half-brother to Leta's foster mother, Anna (Stol) Swanson.
It is at the Columbia Hotel that Leta's mother met and later married Carl Giving in 1902. Anna Hohle wanted to take her daughter Leta with her after she married Carl but Frank Swanson would not have it.
When Frank Swanson realized that the railroad was not going to run thru Foxhome he sold the hotel to his son-in-law Richard H. Butler in 1903. Frank and his family moved to Otter Tail County, Minnesota.
Leta first shows up in records as Cajsa/Cagsa Swanson which was her father's mother's name as seen on the 1905 Minnesota state census record attached in her Sources in this tree. On that census Cajsa/Cagsa Swanson is listed last in the Swanson household below the two hired hands. It appears on that census record she did not have the same birth status as her half brother Oscar Swanson who listed under the parents' names. After the 1905 census Cajsa/Cagsa Swanson is known as Leta S. Swanson.
Leta Swanson married Alfred Emil Bjorgo in November 1911 in Fergus Falls. Their witnesses were Leta's brother Oscar and his new wife Lillian Berge who had just married. After Alfred & Leta's marriage they all went to have oyster stew at the hotel in Fergus Falls. There was a blizzard going on at that time and it was a treacherous ride back home with the team of horses. Leta & Alfred had a family of 13 children. All were born at home without the help of a midwife except for the youngest two children, twins Darlene and Duane. Duane died shortly after birth in 1933.
Leta was the disciplinarian in the family but both she and Alfred made sure the children attended church and Sunday school.
Leta played the piano and Alfred liked to dance. She enjoyed reading but with twelve children to raise, it was a luxury seldom indulged in. Instead, Leta's time was spent braiding rugs out of rags, and quilts out of necessity but she enjoyed the work. She also sewed bloomers out of flour sacks and her favorite movie star was Marilyn Monroe.
Leta liked having her own spending money and was very careful keeping track of where the money went. She carried her purse tucked under her arm in a death grip. She enjoyed remembering loved ones on their birthdays with cards and carefully recorded them.
Leta was very resourceful. Feeding a family of 13 during the depression took a lot of skill. When they butchered meat, nothing was wasted. Even the pigs feet were pickled. The wood cook stove was forever being stoked with wood to keep up with the demand for all the fresh loaves of bread needed to feed such a large family. Store bought bread was a treat and in the summer, canned beans on top of store bought bread was truly a treat. Leta always had chickens, cows, pigs, and a garden to supply the family with food.
Besides taking care of her own family, Leta always made sure that a needy neighbor had food to eat or anything else.
Frank and Anna (Stol) Swanson never talked to her about her birth background which saddened Leta.
Leta died on May 27, 1981 in St. Paul, Minnesota at the age of 86 years and is buried next to Alfred in the Tingvold Lutheran Church Cemetery in Underwood, Minnesota.

Frank Larson Swanson was born Fredrik Larsson Svenson 1857 in Stora Svalehult, Väne Åsaka, Västra Götalands Iän, Sweden.
Frank Swanson first shows on American records as Frederick Swanson who came to America from Sweden on March 17, 1880. He was living with his half brother Andrew Swanson in Alfsborg, Sibley, County, Minnesota.
Frank Swanson's mother was married twice: both husbands had the same surname of Svensson (Swanson in the U.S.) and Frank and Andrew Swanson are half-brothers.
Fredrick went by the name Frank Swanson
In 1884, Frank was working for the Railroad in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he met Anna M. Stol.
Frank had been living in Blue Earth County, Minnesota in 1884 when he married Anna Stol on Oct. 4, 1884 in Mankato.
Frank became an American citizen on Dec. 17, 1892 in the Blue Earth County District Court.
Frank and Anna were living in Decoria Township, Blue Earth County in 1895.
Frank and Anna Swanson had a hired girl by the name of Anna Hohle. Frank fathered a child with Anna Hohle in 1894 while under his employment. Anna Hohle stayed in the Swanson home with her daughter Cajsa after her birth.
In 1897, the entire family (including Anna Hohle and Cajsa) moved to Foxhome, Minnesota. Frank had bought land in Foxhome, Wilken County, Minnesota in June 1899 through April 1900 and started to build a hotel and livery barn.
Frank believed the railroad would eventually run thru Foxhome and he would build a town and make himself a name and money. According to the 1900 census, Frank and Anna Swanson, along with children Albertina & Oscar are living at the hotel along with Anna Hohle and Anna Swanson's half brother, Carl Geving. Absent is Cajsa. Cajsa was living at the hotel with Anna Hohle, but she is not enumerated on the 1900 census.
Tuesday, April 1, 1902 Frank Swanson made a trip back to his home in Sweden.
June 18, 1902, Carl Geving (Anna Stol's half brother) and Anna Hohle married. Anna Hohle Geving wanted to take Cajsa to live with her and Carl. Frank refused to let Cajsa leave his home.
Frank and his family continued to live in Foxhome until he found out the railroad was not going thru Foxhome. He then sold the Hotel Columbia to his son-in-law, Richard Butler and daughter Tena in 1903.
Frank then bought land in Maine Township, Otter Tail County, Minnesota beginning in 1903 and he and wife Anna along with son Oscar and daughter Cajsa moved to Maine Twp.
Jun 1905, Frank was 48, had lived in Minnesota for 25 years, 0 months. he has lived in Otter Tail County for 1 year, 11 months which calculate, indicates the family moved to Otter Tail County in Jul 1903. Frank is a farmer. Cajsa is not listed next to their son Oscar on the census. She is listed after the hired laborers that live on the farm. Whoever gave the census takers the information did not think highly of Cajsa/Cagsa or she would have been listed in order under Oscar.
26 Apr 1910, Frank is living in Maine Township, he has been married to Anna for 25 years and still farms. They became owners of a fine 400 acre tract which was heavily timbered, but by their untiring efforts it became one of the finest farms in Otter Tail county. Only son Oscar lives at home. Cajsa is no longer in the household. Cajsa's name at some point became Leta S. Swanson.
17 Jan 1920, there were three families living on the Swanson farm: Frank and Anna Swanson, Oscar and Lillian Swanson, and Alfred and Leta (Swanson) Bjorgo. In 1920 Frank and Anna decided to take a vacation and rented their farm for two years which they spent very enjoyably in California and Washington. On their return they again took charge of the farm, but later they sold half of the farm to their son-in-law, Richard H. Butler, and the other half to their son Oscar.
3 Apr 1930, Frank and Anna are living alone in Aurdal Township. They bought the Westerhaug place at Fish lake in Aurdal which they built up and improved into an ideal home.
